Laser Whitening: For a Brighter Smile!
We have newly acquired at our Clinic a TRUE LASER SYSTEM, not a gimmicky blue UV flashlight.
Our office uses a Real Laser Diode and 40% hydrogen peroxide concentration, one of the most powerful available in cosmetic dentistry today.
Our peroxide PF formula also contains potassium nitrate and fluoride, which helps to improve oral health by strengthening enamel, decreasing sensitivity and offering increased cavity prevention.
FAQ:
Does whitening really work ?
Every whitening product on the market is efficient. Some are faster, some are less sensitive. We have done our research and we have selected for our patients, what we have found to be the best available option. We are using a 40% hydrogen peroxide, one of the strongest available on the market to get your teeth as white as possible.
Most of our patients will obtain a shade of B1. (See the guide below).
Tooth whitening results will vary from person to person, essentially because of the color of the teeth to begin with. Yellow teeth tend to whiten better than those with grey or stripped teeth. They usually do not whiten well.
It is important to have realistic expectations when evaluating your final results; If your beginning color is B2, the final results will be a lot less impressive than if it were A3.
How long does the procedure take?
Approximately 1 hour. During your whitening appointment, we will apply the whitening gel for two 20 minutes sessions. It will take the equivalent of a two week home whitening treatment to get similar results. Most patients will get satisfying results in only one visit. Depending on the condition of your teeth and of your own personal goal, you may need more than one visit or a 3rd application if you have no sensitivity. You may also continue your whitening treatment with a home kit.
Are there any risks for my gums or my teeth?
Current clinical studies show that home tooth whitening products are not harmful when used as directed. Based on the available scientific information, there is no concern in relation to possible adverse effects on tooth structure or enamel hardness. When using the most powerful gels however, there may be gum irritation or tooth sensitivity in some patients. Although this is usually temporary. Our staff is highly trained for this procedure and rest assured that your health, comfort, and safety are our utmost priority
Will my teeth be sensitive ?
Most patients will have no sensitivity during or after the treatment since the whitening gel we are using contains fluoride and potassium nitrate that decreases the possible sensitivity. The laser is also used during the whitening procedure to eliminate the post operative sensitivity commonly associated with the other whitening systems
If you wish to have a whitening treatment and know that your teeth are sensitive to begin with, please advise one of our staff members. They will suggest a pre-whitening treatment that your may apply 1 week prior to your whitening treatment to reduce the sensitivity. A painkiller such as ibuprophen can also be taken just before your whitening session.
All our patients receive at the end of their whitening session a tray filled with potassium nitrate and fluoride to help rehydrate your teeth and reduce the sensitivity.
Occasionally, some patients may experience during and after the treatment a jolting pain through the tooth which can travel in to the jaw like an electric shock. This does not happen to that many people but it can be uncomfortable. It can last a few hours to a day. During this time, you may take some pain relievers such as ibuprofen.
How long does the whitening last ?
Your teeth will always be whiter than they were prior to the whitening treatment. However, with time, they will naturally regress. Avoiding heavily stained food and drink such as strong coffee, red wines and curries, as well as nicotine products will contribute to the effectiveness of your tooth whitening treatment. A home kit will be given to you if you wish to do touch-ups for one or two days every 6 to 12 months.
