Teeth Cleaning Montreal
We provide in-depth dental cleaning at our Montreal office. We use a unique blend of state-of-the-art teeth cleaning technology, such as our ultrasonic scaler, and time-tested handheld instruments. Using these special tools and drawing from their years of hands-on experience and training, our dental assistants and hygienists can remove every trace of plaque and tartar (a calcified form of plaque that brushing and flossing cannot remove), giving you a smile that looks as clean as it feels.
You and your family should visit our office for professional cleanings and oral exams at least twice a year. To schedule your appointment at Montreal Smiles, please contact our general dentistry practice today.
Oral Health Affects Overall Health
Certain oral health issues can have a serious impact on general health. For instance, gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an inflammatory disorder that affects not only the gums, but also the jaw bone and the connective tissues that hold the teeth in place. If gum disease is left untreated, it can increase a patient's risk of developing other inflammatory diseases, such as diabetes, certain cardiovascular problems, arthritis, and even Alzheimer's disease. If a person already suffers from any of these illnesses, untreated gum disease can exacerbate the problem. By attending regular dental checkups and cleanings, you can take control over your oral health and allow our team to provide early detection and swift treatment.
Dental Care Basics: Checkups and Cleanings
During your first visit to Montreal Smiles, we prefer to conduct only an examination, rather than an exam and cleaning. This allows us to take the time needed to perform an incredibly thorough evaluation of your mouth and discuss any issues that we identify. This also gives us the opportunity to get to know our patients. At a checkup, Dr. Berbari will look for:
- Signs of tooth decay or gum disease.
- Abnormalities of the soft tissues that could indicate oral cancer.
- Problems with your temporomandibular joints (jaw joints).
- Damaged or worn tooth enamel.
- Old or malfunctioning dental work.
- Spacing, alignment, and bite issues that can be treated with traditional orthodontics or Invisalign® clear braces.
- Cosmetic issues such as stains, chips, and cracks.
After a thorough assessment of your oral health, we will schedule your cleaning. We perform regular dental cleanings, as well as specialized cleanings for younger patients, older patients, and patients with special needs. For patients with periodontal issues, we also offer root planing and scaling.
Managing TMJ Disorder
Dr. Berbari will perform a thorough examination of your TMJs. During your one-on-one discussion, he will ask if you've experienced any of the common symptoms of TMJ disorder, such as popping or clicking noises in the jaw, frequent headaches, unexplained back, neck, or facial pain, ringing in the ears, or the inability to properly open and close your mouth. If he detects TMJ disorder, he can recommend a number of treatments options, from home-care techniques to a specialized mouth guard, to help you manage your symptoms and find relief.
